Introduction
The Forecasting and Modelling Lab is offering an internship for bachelor's, master's students, or recent graduates to join as a Research Assistant. This role involves developing AI models to predict coastal erosion patterns and assess the impacts of sea-level rise on coastal communities, infrastructure, and ecosystems. It’s ideal for individuals interested in climate change, coastal management, and AI-driven environmental modelling.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and apply AI models to predict coastal erosion and sea-level rise patterns.
- Assess the impacts of sea-level rise on coastal infrastructure, communities, and ecosystems.
- Collect and process environmental data such as tide levels, erosion rates, and geographic data.
- Use machine learning techniques to improve the accuracy of predictive models.
- Prepare reports and visualisations of model predictions for coastal risk management strategies.
- Collaborate on projects related to coastal resilience and climate adaptation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's, master's student, or recent graduate in a relevant field (Environmental Science, Data Science, Coastal Engineering, Geography).
- Interest in AI modelling, coastal erosion, and sea-level rise impacts.
- Experience or willingness to learn AI techniques and data modelling.
- Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, R) and machine learning libraries.
- Strong analytical, communication, and organisational skills.
Skills and Knowledge You Gain
- Hands-on experience with AI models for predicting coastal erosion and sea-level rise impacts.
- In-depth understanding of the impacts of climate change on coastal regions.
- Proficiency in data collection, processing, and analysis using AI and machine learning tools.
- Enhanced teamwork and communication skills in a research setting.
- Critical thinking for interpreting and presenting AI-driven insights on coastal management.
