Introduction

The Water and Blue Economy Lab is offering an internship for bachelor's, master's students, or recent graduates to join as a Research Assistant. This role focuses on using open-source GIS tools, such as QGIS, to model and optimise marine spatial planning (MSP) for various economic activities. The goal is to balance ecological conservation and commercial needs, making it ideal for those interested in marine management, spatial planning, and sustainability.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Utilise open-source GIS tools (e.g., QGIS) for marine spatial planning.
  • Model and optimise the use of marine space for activities such as fishing, tourism, conservation, and energy production.
  • Analyse spatial data to balance ecological protection with commercial marine activities.
  • Prepare reports, maps, and visualisations to present findings.
  • Collaborate on marine spatial planning projects and contribute to sustainable management strategies.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's, master's student, or recent graduate in a relevant field (Marine Science, Environmental Engineering, GIS, Spatial Planning).
  • Proficiency or interest in using QGIS or other open-source GIS tools.
  • Interest in marine spatial planning and sustainable use of marine resources.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Familiarity with marine conservation and economic activities is a plus.
